I met Deon at Beracah International Ministries. He has been a mentor to my son and a friend to my family. He is very talented and passionate about music and education. I am proud to know and endorse Deon Hairston!

I've known Deon M. Hairston for almost thirty years. Within those thirty years I've known him to be: loyal, emotionally intelligent, vibrant, and honest. Last but not least, he is a friend. I have no doubt he will make a difference in this school district.

Mr. Hairston was my teacher my senior year of high school. This man fully embodies what it means to be a good human. No matter who you are or what you believe Mr.Hairston treats everyone with the upmost respect and kindness. He is a man who sees the innate value in every human being and I have no doubt he would create lasting change in the school district.

I’ve known Deon for five years now, and I can say that consistently stands for truth and justice! Deon would make sure that every single student, including the marginalized and mistreated, will feel heard and valued. If Deon is given this position of influence, then I feel confident that these schools will experience the impact of his presence.

I worked three years with Deon in a dynamic educational setting. I have seen his experience-forged values such as forthrightness, resilience, compassion, cultural intelligence, fortitude, and servant leadership play out benefit the lives of students and staff alike. Deon’s unique life experiences and informed perspectives will strengthen any educational institution that he influences. I met Deon in college and to this day am struck by his love for, his community, his family, the future well-being of others and, his generous heart and spirit. He is honest, humble and kind and a complete boss! He receives the trust and loyalty of anyone fortunate enough to work with him.

Deon Hairston is an amazing leader and cares deeply about his community. He is always positive, uplifting to others and he makes everyone feel important. I believe he will be great for this position and bring fairness to all.

I've watched Deon stand up and become a leader in our community. As a 35 year Murrieta resident and the first graduating class of MVHS, I think Deon is exactly what MVUSD needs to move us forward but still maintaining respect for how far we have come. 

I've known Deon for several years now we met working with the Black Student Association at Azusa Pacific University. I’ve always been impressed with Deon’s intelligence and insightfulness. He has a great heart and evident passion for positive change . I have no doubt he’s a great candidate because he’s the type of person with the passion, knowledge and initiative to effectively serve and advocate for those he represents !

When Deon and I met in college, I instantly felt accepted and supported. Deon is one of the most genuine, enthusiastic, kind, and caring people I know. Any school community would be proud, honored, and lucky to have Deon on its side.

I’ve known Deon for longer than I can remember. He’s always been a very dedicated and diligent individual focused on learning and helping people. We have worked together in the music industry, in sessions and performing, as well as in music ministry, and I have seen him grow from a great person into an even greater educator and administrator.

He is intelligent, strong and full of conviction, and he is very passionate about helping children and furthering education. He will be an incredible asset to the Murrieta Valley Unified School District Board.

Deon is a leader with an inclusive spirt and a big heart. He is a life-long learner -- always listening and growing and interacting with others in humility. Deon is one of the most PASSIONATE people I know. Over the MANY years I've known him, I've got to witness how giving he is of himself to friends and strangers. it's the very same. and The strangers don't stay strangers long... He's that kind of guy. Trustworthy and will stick by you and stick up for you. he has the biggest heart and once you get him laughing, its infectious.

I’ve known Deon for over 20 years. There isn’t a person that is connected to him or has connected with him who can say he didn’t impact their life in some way. He’s been a man of integrity and a humanitarian for as long as I’ve known him and I don’t feel that’s going to change. Deon fights for what he believes in and his passion for helping others is bar none. Elect this man tomorrow!

I have had the pleasure of knowing Deon for over 10 years while going to college and working in the music industry. I am proud to say that every interaction has been positive and left me better as a human being. Deon has the unique gift to channel his positivity and transfer that energy to empower you to be a better person. I know that he will be a great choice for the school district 5!

Deon has been a big brother to me for nearly 15 years, and I’ve experienced many others look up to him. Along with being a ridiculously gifted musician, Deon is a natural leader who brings heart and positive energy to everything he does. Some years ago I hired Deon to be a teacher, at a local school that serves children and young adults with chronic and severe social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. It takes a special kind of person to work with students that have not often had successful school experiences. Deon was almost immediately a stabilizing presence in his classroom. He worked hard to establish rapport with his students, treated them as individuals, and always with respect and dignity. He was always able to maintain an even disposition, many times under the most difficult of circumstances. He was an excellent member of our teaching team, related well with other staff on campus, and met all of his professional job-related responsibility with efficiency, timeliness, and intelligence. I believe he would be an outstanding member of the school board as he is 100% student oriented, well-focused on the quality of the educational experience, and is able to establish positive working relationships with parents. Knowing him, he will work hard to make the position apolitical, always maintaining a focus on the students and maximization of their educational experience. He is objective, insightful, and always tries to be mindful of what is best for the students. I believe he will always strive to reach a happy medium between the schools, parents, community members, and the school board as a whole. I am pleased and proud to be able to recommend this fine, upstanding, hard working, and devoted young man for this position.

Mr. Hairston has had a great influence on my life. I met Deon during my senior year at Rancho Christian High School, around 2019/2020. While at Rancho Christian, I played on the basketball team, and we were a national powerhouse, ranked in the top 10 in the country by USA Today. We had six players on the team who went on to play Division I basketball after high school, and two are now in the NBA. However, despite our success, we still experienced racism once we stepped off the court.

At that time, I was one of the few Black students at Rancho Christian High School, and I didn’t have a voice on campus. As soon as Deon came to our school, he instantly became an advocate for us students. Deon has helped me find my place in the world as a Black man and feel comfortable in my skin. I know that when Deon is around, the minority group will be represented and have a voice. He is a true, fearless advocate against oppression for all people.

Deon also helped me in my faith and relationship with God. He is one of the most educated religious scholars I’ve ever met, and he has helped me grow in my Christian faith. I’m now a senior in college, and I still stay in touch with Deon; he continues to mentor me as a Black man and a follower of Christ.

Over the past 15+ years of our brotherhood/sisterhood, it has been an absolute blessing to witness Deon's unwavering passion for our youth. We met in church, where he served as both a youth pastor and a drummer for the praise and worship team. From the beginning, he’s been an exemplary role model, always ready to listen to and support the young people in our community. When I mention his name to my now grown children, their faces light up as they immediately express their love, admiration, and appreciation for the positive influence he’s had on their lives.

When I think about the kind of person I’d want on the school board, it’s someone like Deon—someone who will tirelessly advocate for our children, someone they can look up to for guidance and wisdom. Deon would move mountains for our kids, always with poise and grace. He is highly educated, well-informed, and not one to be swayed by fleeting trends. He’s a researcher, a seeker of truth, and a firm practitioner of what is right and just.

As I write this, I feel emotional. I am so proud to call Deon my brother in Christ, and without a doubt, I know he is the best person to serve on the school board.

I met Deon almost 10 years ago, we played music in Indonesia. I don’t think I could have made it that long and far away from my family if it weren’t for Deon. What a welcoming fun loving person who is not only smart and charismatic, he has the heart of a saint. Deon is just what the world needs, someone who is strong willed but also willing to lend an ear with an open mind. Elect him, you won’t be disappointed!

Deon is a strong man of integrity that deserves the opportunity to serve his community. He has a true heart for the youth of his community and they would lucky to have him on the school board as a leader and an advocate for higher education.

As a Rancho Christian parent, I am happy to provide this testimonial to describe the profound and enduring impact Mr. Hairston had on my son’s life. Mr. Hairston was the first teacher my then-11th-grade son and I spoke with when attending the welcome day at Rancho Christian in 2021. It was my son’s first year at Rancho Christian High School, and we could not have been more pleased to meet Mr. Hairston -- a sunny, engaging, welcoming, and insightful personality who made us feel we had made a great decision in choosing Rancho Christian. Mr. Hairston described the high school course he was teaching and how he was striving to create independent thinkers among the students. My son was very excited to join his class. Unfortunately, my son comes from a very difficult family background, and his recent experiences had left him – in his words – “broken.” My son and I will always be grateful for the amazing mentor Mr. Hairston was to my son. Mr. Hairston was steadfast in serving as a source of encouragement and support. By the end of 11th grade, my son was like a new person. His confidence was high, and his grades were equally high – a 4.75 GPA that year (yes, 4.75, not 3.75). I call this the “Hairston-Mueller effect,” after the two teachers who helped him soar. During my son’s senior year, my son served as Mr. Hairston’s teacher’s aid, benefiting from another wonderful year under Mr. Hairston’s tutelage. That year, Mr. Hairston wrote recommendation after recommendation for my son. This was burdensome, no doubt, but Mr. Hairston always came through. With Mr. Hairston’s support, my son won city awards, national distinctions – from the Elks Foundation to the Ron Brown Foundation -- and became the first student ever admitted from Rancho Christian to Stanford, which has only a 4% acceptance rate. My son was, in fact, admitted to all the CA colleges he applied to – from Berkeley to UCLA. I cannot praise Mr. Hairston enough. He is dedicated, determined, and has a heart of gold. I know from experience that he will work hard to help young people achieve their dreams.

Deon and I have been the best of friends for over 30 years since Middle School. In relation to his values and core, he's been the exact same person since the day I met him. In a world of constant change, new fads, Murrieta School District 5 would be blessed to have someone not easily shaken by popular opinion, but standing on principles. Even though our approach differs at times, I will always respect Deon for his absolute fearlessness to speak what is right. The kids of the Murrieta School District would benefit from having an advocate who won't be swayed by board politics and even if standing alone, will speak up for what is right for the students of Murrieta. Even with his big sense of humor, I've never seen Deon take on any ambition half hearted. So if elected, I believe Murrieta School District 5 will have secured a gem who will be dedicated and focus to improving the educational condition of students, teachers and parents.
